The Saint Joseph Sporting Club (SJSC), is a club rich in history, strong in support and proud of each player who wears the double blue colours. The heritage of our Catholic schools during the 1960s, our junior sporting soccer and netball teams paved the way for developing our senior grades in both sports. Our first senior men’s soccer team began in the early 1990s, and soon to follow was our first women’s team. We were the first club to develop an all-girls under 14 soccer team in 2014.
During our inclusion into the Broken Hill Soccer Association (BHSA), the SJSC has dominated the league in many grades and continues to be a strong and united force both on and off the field, winning plenty of the silverware to prove it.
As this may be your first year with the SJSC or you're continuing your support, it’s important to understand the many mechanisms of the club that needs your support. I would like to encourage every member to get involved in any way possible, irrespective of the amount of time you can give, as the SJSC would greatly appreciate your backing. These areas are:
Club meetings: to contribute in the direction for the immediate and near future
Canteen duties, sponsorship fundraising and social events
Coaching or running of the lines or refereeing a game
SJSC has an open-door policy as we pride ourselves on being approachable and proactive to the needs of the club, and members.
Communication is key and the committee members are available to talk to no matter the situation and all matters are held strictly confidential.
Your first point of contact is your coach. However, if this is not possible a committee member who is listed in this handbook will assist you.
Together we can create positive change for future success. Respectfully yours, President of the Saint Joseph Sporting Club.
SJSC acknowledges the importance of having club core values to encourage the ethics and honour that will characterise our club and its members from the competition. All committee members, coaches, and club members will uphold our five core values during the season and especially during competition. The SJSC club values are;
Integrity: Be honest with the SJSC, committee members, coaches, and your teammates.
Sportsmanship: Defines us as ethical, civil and having appropriate behaviour towards all opponents during the game, while also being gracious when accepting defeat as we wear our club colours with pride.
Respect: Show respect towards the committee members, your coach, and your teammates as it conveys a sense of admiration, personal value, and honour.
Team Spirit: When all individuals of the club and or team can proactively cooperate and inspire others to do great work, then there is nothing we cannot accomplish together.
Club Commitment: The success of the SJSC relies strongly upon the committed efforts of all committee members, coaches, and club members. Together we are responsible for our club's success.
For the duration of our soccer seasons, the SJSC and its coaches will endeavour to develop and refine our soccer skills, to continue to promote, produce and play competitive soccer throughout our grades and as a sporting club.
What makes a club strong is having committed members, and the more you can assist with the SJSC and its committee members, the more we can build and strengthen our club.
We can all understand that the junior division is our club foundation. In saying this we need as many parents to get involved with your child or children's sport as much as possible during the season.
If you would like to volunteer, coach a grade or just lend a one-off hand, then please contact our club president or committee members for further details.
